Declaration of INTERdependence

Timothy Wilken writes: Known to the wise—Abraham, Buddha, Confucius, and Jesus understood the underlying connectedness of all humanity. Their admonitions to us contain high awareness of our human INTERdependence. This is why they taught us not to kill, not to steal, not to molest, not to fraud, not to coerce. They understood that the conflict of Adversity was not for humankind. They understood that the indifference of Neutrality was not for humankind. They taught us to be our brother's keeper. War Planes Patrol American Skies

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Military jets will patrol the United States July 4 as part of tighter security to protect Americans as they celebrate Independence Day on Thursday, the White House said Wednesday. "Combat Air Patrols (CAPS) will be flying over several American cities and randomly throughout the nation. There will be enhanced local police and FBI presence throughout the country," White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said.  (07/04/02)

Thank You , America

WashingtonPost -- Jan Nowak writes:  This July 4, many Americans may feel baffled and disappointed by the waves of anti-Americanism sweeping through countries that, not too long ago, were either saved or helped by the United States. Allies such as France and Great Britain and former enemies such as Germany and Japan benefited greatly from America's generosity and support in their time of need, as did Belgium, Holland, Italy, Russia, Poland, South Korea, the Philippines, Taiwan and others. Without the United States, some of these countries might no longer exist. Those of us who remember and remain grateful should no longer remain silent. For people like me -- and there are millions of us -- this Fourth of July is a good opportunity to say, "Thank you, America." (07/04/02)
